Ben and I are pleased to announce the hiring of Matt Grimm as President of GTU.
Matt comes to GTU with over 25 years of transportation insurance management including 10 years in private law practice. Most recently, Matt was President of Vanliner, serving the moving and storage industry. Prior to that, he led the Passenger Transportation division of National Interstate. After obtaining his law degree and being admitted to the bar, Matt entered private practice and served as defense counsel for commercial and personal lines insurance companies. He began his transportation insurance career with Great West as a Claims Attorney, later becoming an Underwriting Manager.
Matt earned his undergraduate degree from Ohio State University and his law degree from Cleveland State University. He and his wife, Brenna, are empty nesters with two adult children. Matt and Brenna currently reside near Akron and will move to the Nashville area. In the meantime, he will spend some limited time here in the office (due to Covid-19 restrictions) and work from his virtual office at home.
Ben and I have spent over 40 years in this industry and our runways are getting shorter. We’ve spent considerable effort searching for someone who has the bandwidth and capacity to support our people, culture, and stakeholders.
Matt has become a subject-matter-expert in his 25 years in the transportation segment. It’s extremely rare to find someone of Matt’s caliber who has such a broad base of competencies in underwriting, claims, and senior leadership skills, across the broad spectrum of trucking, transit, moving and storage, and last mile industries. Matt brings so much to the table which will benefit GTU’s producers and insurers.
A leadership change of this nature takes time and as some wise old sage once said, “time takes time.” Ben and I will continue to serve at least through the latter part of 2022, to provide continuity and support to Matt’s successful transition into his new role.
We’re lucky to have Matt on our team. We’re certain you will agree with us as you become acquainted with Matt. He’s extremely bright, personable, competent, and is excited about entering this new chapter in his life. We’re confident that Matt will build upon GTU’s strengths which will create growth and additional opportunities for all our constituencies – our people, producers, policyholders, insurers, and shareholders.
